Dnepr "Wheat Bikes"

The late 1970s and early 1980s were very much in the midst of the cold war and very little trade existed between Russia and the west. In 1980, the Ukraine grain production fell far short of the regions needs and millions were at risk of starving. As part of efforts to help, Canada sent wheat to the region and in exchange, 400 Dnepr sidecar rigs were sent to Canada.

Known as “wheat bikes” these 10-36 models are universally acclaimed as excellent handling sidecars that rival current Ural models. Old Vintage Cranks has three examples of these very rare Dneprs that for many years now, have been part of Ken Beach’s personal collection and are now being offered for sale.

Red Dnepr “Star” - 1980

This Dnepr “Star” wheat bike is one of Ken’s favourites. Comes with a deep oil pan and Mikuni carburetors. oVc has made other improvements including custom front brakes and clutch cables.

Red Dnepr - 1980

Low mileage, fully original – this wheat bike has barely 1000 miles on the clock. Motor and carbs have been reconditioned and the entire bike has been reviewed by the experts at oVc. You will not find a finer, unmolested example.

1966 Fuji Rabbit Superflow 200

This is a very special find – a 1966 Fuji Rabbit Superflow 200. A total of 75,000 Superflows were built in Japan between 1958 and 1968, but very few made their way to our shores. However, in Japan, the Superflow is a much sought after iconic scooter.

Dubbed the “Gentleman’s scooter” the Superflow features classic European styling, coupled with cutting edge Japanese technology. The Superflow boasted a powerful 200 cc two stroke engine that could easily cruise at 60 plus miles an hour while insulating the rider from bumps thanks to an air-ride suspension.

The Rabbit was the stepping stone for Fiji to expand into the small passenger car market as the Japanese economy expanded. This venture became Subaru and even some of the styling cues can be seen in early Subaru models.

Old Vintage Cranks recently came into possession of this excellent example of this very rare scooter. The engine has been completely overhauled and while some cosmetic touch-ups would enhance the scooter’s appearance, everything works like new.
